Uphold

Effective September 28, 2021, Uphold is no longer permitting new sign-ups from China.

Use Uphold to have your earnings paid out in over 50 supported currencies, including fiat and crypto. See Uphold's site for more information.

Opening an Uphold account only takes a few minutes. They collect your legal name, date of birth, and phone number. You don't have to verify your identity until you're ready to withdraw your funds, but you can do it earlier if you want. See their help article for more information.

Sign up#

If you are an individual, you can sign up through Uphold's app or website. If you are a business, you must sign up through their website. For more information about business accounts, review Uphold's help doc.

Uphold is in the process of obtaining a BitLicense in the state of New York. Until the BitLicense is issued they cannot support cryptocurrency transactions in New York. You can still set up an account and claim funds in a supported currency, such as USD.

  1. Download and install the Uphold app or visit https://uphold.com/signup.
  2. Select Sign Up.
  3. Complete all fields and accept Uphold's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If you're on the website, select your account type (individual or business).

  4. Proceed to the next screen.
  5. Complete all fields, certify your details, then proceed to the next screen.

  6. Check your email and confirm your email address.

  7. When confirmed, the app and website refresh.
  8. Select Fund my account, then proceed the next section.

Set up your account to receive Interledger payments#

  • App - If you're still in the Sign Up flow, tap Fund my account. If you're on the Portfolio screen, tap Transact in the toolbar.
  • Website - Click Transact in the toolbar.
  1. Tap the From menu.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap Interledger.

  3. Tap I agree and Continue.

  4. If you don't want your earnings paid out in the default currency (the example below shows USD), tap the To menu.

  5. Select the currency you want your earnings converted to. The QR code screen updates with the selected currency and a newly generated payment pointer.

  6. Tap Done.

View activity, claim funds, and make a withdrawal#

View activity#

You can see real-time incoming payment streams in the app and on the website through the Activity screen.

Tap any activity that shows on the screen to see more details.

Claim funds#

Before your funds can be withdrawn, they must be claimed. You can manually claim funds over $0.02 USD. If you don't claim your available funds, Uphold will automatically do it for you when the conditions listed below are met.

  • Accrued funds of $0.02 USD through $0.99 USD are auto-claimed every 24 hours
  • Accrued funds of $1.00 USD or more are auto-claimed every hour

If you know you've received a payment, but you can't claim it, it could be that:

  • Your balance is less than $0.02 USD and can't be claimed
  • Your balance is at least $0.02 USD, but not enough time has passed for Uphold to auto-claim the payment

When you've received the minimum amount required to make a manual claim, the Claim Funds button becomes active. Remember, if you don't manually claim your funds, Uphold will do it for you.

After the funds are claimed, the transaction's status changes to Completed.

The transaction shows as deposited on the Activity screen.

Make a withdrawal#

The steps for making a withdrawal depend on whether you want the funds deposited into a bank account or to a crypto network. Review Uphold's documentation for details:

Find your payment pointer#

Website#

The Portfolio screen won't show a card until you receive a payment. In the meantime, you can find your payment pointer through the Transact panel.

Portfolio screen#

  1. Select the card from the Portfolio screen. In the screenshot below, the middle panel shows a USD card.

  2. Click the three ... in the upper-right of the middle panel.

  3. Click Interledger payment pointer.
  4. Click I agree and then Confirm.

  5. Copy your payment pointer, then click Done.

Transact panel#

  1. Click Transact in the far-right panel (labeled Anything to Anything).

  2. Click the From menu.
  3. Scroll down and click Interledger.

  4. Click I agree and then Confirm.
  5. Click the To menu above the QR code.

  6. Locate your account in the My Accounts section, then click the account.

  7. Copy your payment pointer, then click Done.

App#

The Portfolio screen won't show a card until you receive a payment. In the meantime, you can find your payment pointer through the Transact screen.

  1. Tap the card on the Portfolio screen.
  2. Tap ... in the upper right, then tap Interledger payment pointer.
  3. Copy your payment pointer, then tap Done.

Transact screen#

The Portfolio screen won't show a card until you receive a payment. In the meantime, you can find your payment pointer through the Transact screen.

  1. Tap Transact in the toolbar.
  2. Tap From.
  3. Scroll down and tap Interledger.
  4. Tap I agree and then Continue.
  5. Copy your payment pointer, then tap Done and leave the Transact screen.
